AI In Fashion Design

Everyone knows about the rise of AI and how it's affecting people's jobs, but have we “fashionistas” ever considered what it may do to us?
For the most obvious reason, why ai in fashion design is a red flag, is because it's going to be taking jobs!
Any fashion mogul deciding who's going to get a job offer should really consider why ai may not be a good fit, for the sake of their company; other than the fact it processes designs fast.
The fashion industry is all about culture and artistic intuition; people being able to connect to their artwork.
According to The Model Alliance, on June 19, 2025; The company was pushing for the Fashion Workers Act in New York, which would require written consent for any digital replica and mandate transparency on intended use. Some people may think it was dramatic of them to take such actions, but certain precautions are needed to protect the rights of people in line of work.
To be fair, I understand the fact that some people may want AI in the fashion industry, because you just tell it what you want, and poof it's there!
AI may be able to mimic human cognitive, creative, and analytical processes, but it just doesn’t have that human touch. It doesn't have that culturally rich, intuitive, and emotional intelligence way humans have .
To be fair, I understand the fact you may want AI in the industry, because you just tell it what you want, and poof it's there; But the unique thing about humans, is that they can come up with fresh ideas with imagination, things that ai just cant do.
You want to know what I think?
I suggest that we utilize AI as a tool and not a replacement for us fashionistas. I say we use humans and their creative, imaginative brains to come up with designs that connect with the models, customers, designs, etc.; because without differentiation in the fashion industry there are no original pieces, or fashion statements; everyone is simply the same. According to AI Art Central, “AI performance depends on the data it’s trained on. In fashion, datasets can be incomplete, outdated, or biased, leading to predictions or designs that miss market realities or reinforce stereotypes.”
This means that even though AI certainly has its perks, it just doesn’t outshine its limitations, that really does matter in fashion design.
Because at the end of the day, Fashion is all about patterns and unique designs, and that's a boundary AI simply doesn't understand.
